Here is an installation I did as part of a group show - Worn Articles: Heard, Read, Remembered. The show asked a group of artist to respond to an architectural space, the historic Preston Bradley Center (now the Peoples Church, 941 W. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago 60640). We were asked to be inspired by the space and pull in the elements of text and/or clothing. I love gifts like this!

When I first saw the space I knew exactly what I wanted to do! I had just returned from Boston and I was still cranked up from the Time Body Space Objects 4 show (where I spend a day creating sculptures in response to a historic fort on George's Island).  Words, space, and a huge ball of cotton...sign me up!

The old Preston Bradley Center is amazing. It is so easy to sit there and imagine all the words that have been spoken or songs that have washed over it. I wanted to use the structure I created as an allegory for spoken word – each stitch a word, syllable, or utterance. One stitch alone may not mean anything, but together they create a fluency and something bigger.
