Here's Gwen Blakley Kinsler, the Crochet Queen! She stopped by DEFIBRILLATOR to see my work and show me her new book: The Fine Art of Crochet: Innovative Works from 20 Contemporary Artists. Gwen has written about 20 artists that use the medium of crochet. I am chapter 4...or 5?

Weave has carried over to my studio! Here is a piece I completed today. The big ball of yarn is cotton welting. The sculpture can be seen in the window of the Greenleaf Art Center - 1806 Greenleaf, Chicago, Illinois.

Thanks to Gina from Switzerland who picked out this material for me to work with. Surprisingly it was very easy to work with and got my mind thinking about similar materials!

Here is Amanda of Redskew (check out her blog below).  She describes herself as a “maker!” She happened to be walking by the gallery and noticed what I was doing. She passed by but then found the courage to come back and talk to me. It was great because she spent a good part of the afternoon with me. Amanda picked out a black vinyl trim for me. The piece started out very “basket-like” then exploded into something wild – it seemed very Fellini! Thanks to Amanda for the inspiration and inspiring conversation.

Picture
This is performance artist, Katy Albert. She was the inspiration for this piece.
This was a hard material to work with because I couldn't see my stitches. Nonetheless I love how it turned out!
